More than 1,000 first class petty officers will pin on anchors in September as Navy Reserve and full-time support chiefs.
This year's list includes 814 selected reservists and 232 FTS sailors.
This year's board had 900 quotas for E-7 out of a pool of 3,218 eligible selected reserve candidates — creating a 28 percent chance to move up into khaki. That's 6 percentage points higher than last year, when 767 sailors moved up out of a pool of 3,411 for a 22 percent shot at gold anchors; that was nearly double the 12 percent shot in 2005.
Full-time support sailors also faired well, with 232 quotas to hand out among 1,283 eligible sailors. That's an 18 percent shot at advancing — up from 13 percent last year.
