In the past year, Navy uniform shops have sold 502,000 "performance" blue T-shirts to be worn with the new blue-and-gray camouflage Navy Working Uniform. Now, the Navy says you can't wear them.

The 50/50 cotton/polyester blue T-shirts, identified by "Soffe" in red letters on the collar label, were sold from November 2008 to December 2009.

The 50/50 shirts were never authorized to be worn with the uniform, but because of a miscommunication, they were sold alongside the 100 percent cotton version, which is authorized.

According to NavAdmin 015/10, released Jan. 15, Navy Exchange Service Command is offering refunds if you have the receipt — or store credit if you don't — for unworn shirts. But Capt. George Avram, director of the Uniform Program Management Office at NEXCom, said he'll go one better.

"NEX will take back any of the unauthorized shirts, worn or not," he said.
