SANTA ANA, Calif. — Authorities say an AWOL soldier has been charged with killing his friend and wounding his father and another man in a shooting in a Southern California hotel.
The Orange County District Attorney's office said 23-year-old Spc. Steven LeClaire was charged Monday with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder.
Prosecutors say LeClaire was drinking with his father and two friends in a Cypress hotel room last Thursday when he pulled out a gun and fired several times, killing 24-year-old Marques Murray.
Prosecutors say LeClaire then walked out of the room and surrendered to a hotel manager.
LeClaire, who is accused of going AWOL from the Army, is being held on $1 million bail.
Lee Gabriel, an attorney with the Public Defender's office, declined comment.
