The top sailor on the dock landing ship Fort McHenry was fired Friday over allegations of misconduct, Naval Surface Force Atlantic announced late Friday.

Cmdr. Ray Hartman relieved Command Master Chief (SW) Donald Darcy "pending the completion of an ongoing investigation" into the allegations, SURFLANT spokesman Lt. Cmdr. Bill Urban said.

Urban declined to provide further details, citing the ongoing investigation, but said action was taken fairly rapidly. The investigation began immediately after Hartman learned of the allegations Thursday, he said.

The Judge Advocate Manual investigation is being conducted by the ship with assistance from SURFLANT, Urban said.

Unofficially, Darcy would be the seventh top sailor fired in 2011 a total that includes six command master chiefs and one submarine's chief of the boat.

Darcy had been the CMC of Fort McHenry, homeported at Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, Va., since March 2010. A fire controlman by trade, Darcy, a native of Everett, Wash., enlisted in 1988. He was selected for the CMC program in 2007. Fort McHenry was his second tour as a CMC.

Darcy has been temporarily reassigned to the staff of Expeditionary Strike Group 2, and a temporary relief is now onboard Fort McHenry, according to Urban. The ship recently completed an extensive maintenance period and is not deploying any time soon, he said.
