The top enlisted adviser for a Reserve cargo handling unit in Virginia was fired Wednesday because of fraternization and other misconduct, the Navy announced.
Master Chief Logistics Specialist Scott Splitgerber, a reservist, was relieved as command master chief of Navy Cargo Handling Battalion 4, based at Cheatham Annex, after an investigation found he had committed fraternization as well as made a false official statement, the Navy said in a statement.
He is the second top enlisted member of a Cheatham Annex-based command to be fired in about two weeks: On Feb. 28, Command Master Chief (SW/AW) Richard Ward was fired as the top enlisted at Navy Expeditionary Logistics Support Group for fraternization with two of his chief petty officers and other infractions.
Capt. Charles Rink, commodore of 2nd Navy Expeditionary Logistics Regiment, gave Splitgerber non-judicial punishment as a result of the investigation, which was sparked by allegations from a member of the command.
Splitgerber was reassigned to drill with 2nd NELR. Senior Chief Boatswain's Mate Steve Turner became acting senior enlisted leader for NCHB 4.
