For every sailor who deploys overseas to stand the watch over our freedom, there is a family that selflessly serves alongside. Those of us who have served or stood by an active-duty loved one husbands, wives, fathers, sons and daughters know that service to one's country is a family affair.

Every day I am overwhelmed by the honor, courage and commitment of families and their communities that sustain our sailors and enable their continued service to our Navy and country.

I am grateful that our Navy families do not stand alone; there is tremendous support from many organizations and groups that also serve our nation in an important capacity. From the ombudsman, to the spouse and family support networks, to local organizations and our neighbors, all are bolstering our families and sailors during good and challenging times.

Engaged in Navy life for over 30 years, I am amazed every day at the commitment of our Navy family and their supporters. This team is the reason our sailors and Navy are the greatest in the world.

Jon and I thank you you are in our thoughts and prayers.
