OCEANSIDE, Calif. — A Navy corpsman was killed Sunday morning in a vehicle crash during training exercises, the Marine Corps announced Tuesday
Hospital Corpsman 3rd Class Wilson Won Lee, 23, was assigned to Combat Logistics Battalion 1, Combat Logistics Regiment 1, at Camp Pendleton, according to a 1st Marine Logistics Group release.
Three Marines in the vehicle were hurt in the crash but are expected to fully recover, said 2nd Lt. Savannah Moyer, a 1st MLG spokeswoman.
The incident happened on a hilly road during exercise "Steel Knight," Moyer said. No other vehicles were involved in the accident. She had no other details about the crash, which is under investigation.
Steel Knight is 1st Marine Division's annual live-fire and maneuver training exercise. This year it is being held at Camp Pendleton and the Marine Corps Air-Ground Combat Center in Twentynine Palms, Calif.
Lee, of Lakewood, Calif., enlisted in the Navy in 2008 and had deployed twice to Afghanistan, in 2009 and 2011, according to 1st MLG. His awards and decorations include the Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, NATO Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal and Sea Service Deployment Ribbon.
