NORFOLK, Va. The Navy says the guided-missile destroyer Gonzalez is set to deploy from Norfolk Naval Station.

Officials said the ship and crew of 276 will relieve the Oscar Austin.

The ship set to deploy Friday to the 5th Fleet area of operations. That area includes the Persian Gulf, Arabian Sea and parts of the Indian Ocean.

The Virginian-Pilot reported that the Gonzalez is led by Cmdr. Chris H. Inskeep. The ship is named for Sgt. Freddy Gonzalez, a Marine Medal of Honor recipient who was killed in 1968 during the initial phase of Operation Hue City in Vietnam.
