President Obama will call on Congress to delay the automatic sequestration budget cuts yet again.

White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said on Twitter that Obama will deliver a statement at 1:15 p.m. Tuesday demanding Congress "to act to avoid the sequester & reduce the deficit in a balanced way."

The Associated Press reported that White House officials said Obama will ask for "tens of billions of dollars in short-term spending cuts and tax revenue" to delay sequestration, which is now scheduled to begin March 1.

If Congress agrees, it would be the second delay for sequestration, originally scheduled to go into effect Jan. 2 when Congress and the White House failed to agree on a deficit reduction plan. Congress delayed the Jan. 2 effective date by two months as part of a deal to avoid the so-called fiscal cliff.

The deputy chief of staff for House Speaker John Boehner quickly mocked Obama's request on Twitter.

"Don't look now, America, but your president is proposing yet another ‘short-term fix' for the economy and the spending problem," David Schnittger said.
