32 captains nominated to receive first star

Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced Monday that President Obama nominated the following 32 captains for the rank of rear admiral:

• Capt. John Ailes, who is serving as major program manager, Program Executive Office for Littoral Combat Ships, Washington, D.C.

• Capt. Christian Becker, who is serving as major program manager for Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command, Space Field Activity, Chantilly, Va.

• Capt. Babette Bolivar, who is serving as chief of staff, commander, Navy Installations Command, Washington.

• Capt. Louis Cariello, who is serving as commanding officer, Naval Facilities Engineering Command, Europe, Africa, and Southwest Asia, Naples, Italy.

• Capt. Daryl Caudle, who is serving as chief of staff, commander, Submarine Force, U.S. Pacific Fleet, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

• Capt. Kyle Cozad, who is serving as a Chief of Naval Operations strategic studies group fellow, Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, Newport, R.I.

• Capt. Randy Crites, who is serving as branch head, Operations and Analysis Directorate, N80, Office of the Chief of Naval Operations, Washington.

• Capt. Daniel Fillion, who is serving as executive assistant to the assistant secretary of the Navy financial management and comptroller, Washington.

• Capt. Lisa Franchetti, who is serving as Navy military assistant to the secretary of the Navy, Washington.

• Capt. William Galinis, who is serving as commanding officer, Norfolk Ship Support Activity, Norfolk, Va.

• Capt. Jon Hill, who is serving as major program manager for Program Executive Office for Integrated Warfare Systems, Washington.

• Capt. Marcus Hitchcock, who is serving as commanding officer of the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower, now on deployment.

• Capt. Kenneth Iverson, who is serving as commanding officer, Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

• Capt. Adrian Jansen, who is serving as defense attache to Jakarta, Indonesia.

• Capt. Thomas Kearney, who is serving as major program manager for Undersea Weapons Program Executive Office for Submarines, Washington.

• Capt. Roy Kelley, who is serving as chief of staff, commander, Naval Air Force, Pacific Fleet, San Diego.

• Capt. James Loeblein, who is serving as director of the Navy Senate Liaison Office, Office of Legislative Affairs, Washington.

• Capt. Brian ‘Lex’ Luther, who is serving as commanding officer of the aircraft carrier George H.W. Bush, Norfolk.

• Capt. William Merz, who is serving as chief of staff, commander, Submarine Force, Atlantic Fleet, Norfolk.

• Capt. Michael Moran, who is serving as military assistant to the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, technology and logistics, Washington.

• Capt. Christopher Murray, who is serving as section head, strike aircraft plans and regulations, N880, OPNAV, Washington.

• Capt. Nancy Norton, who is serving as a Chief of Naval Operations strategic studies group fellow, Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, Newport.

• Capt. John Nowell Jr., who is serving as personnel distribution officer, Pers-41, Navy Personnel Command, Millington, Tenn.

• Capt. Stephen M. Pachuta, who is serving as executive assistant to the surgeon general of the Navy, Bureau of Medicine and Surgery, Falls Church, Va.

• Capt. Gordon Peters, who is serving as major program manager for Program Executive Office for Air, Patuxent River, Md.

• Capt. John Polowczyk, who is serving as comptroller, Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk.

• Capt. Robert Sharp, who is serving as a Chief of Naval Operations strategic studies group fellow, Chief of Naval Operations Strategic Studies Group, Newport.

• Capt. Timothy Szymanski, who is serving as staff operations and planning officer, Naval Special Warfare Command Detachment, Virginia Beach, Va.

• Capt. Paul Verrastro, who is serving as commanding officer, Naval Supply Systems Command, Fleet Logistics Center, Pearl Harbor.

• Capt. Timothy White, who is serving as commanding officer, Naval Intelligence Operations Center Maryland, Fort George G. Meade, Md.

• Capt. Richard Williams Jr., who is serving as branch head, assessments, N73, Fleet Forces Command, Norfolk.

• Capt. Daniel Zinder, who is serving as commander, NATO Role 3 Multinational Medical Unit, Kandahar, Afghanistan.
