GROTON, Conn. — A nuclear-powered attack submarine is returning to the Navy base in Groton following a six-month deployment.
The Alexandria steamed more than 34,000 miles on its travels to and around the U.S. Africa Command and European Command areas of responsibility.
The Los Angeles-class submarine is expected back at the Naval Submarine Base on Wednesday. The Norwich Free Academy Wildcat Marching Band is expected to be on hand to welcome home the crew home.
The Alexandria was commissioned in 1991 and is the third Navy vessel to be named for cities in both Louisiana and Virginia.
