PARRIS ISLAND, S.C. — The Marine Corps Recruit Depot on Parris Island is conducting aerial spraying to battle sand fleas and mosquitoes.

Depot spokeswoman 2nd Lt. Jean Durham said the spraying would begin Monday and run through Thursday.

The spraying will take place around two hours before sundown if the weather permits.

Durham said the insecticides are approved by the Environmental Protection Agency and present no threat to humans, plants or animals in the area. Beekeepers within a five-mile radius of the island are advised to keep their hives covered.
