SAVANNAH, GA. — Police in Savannah say an active-duty Army soldier has been charged in the death of a Savannah tire store owner.
Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan police spokesman Julian Miller said Emanuel Perez surrendered to authorities Tuesday in the shooting death of 30-year-old Armondo Montes. Miller said Montes owned Brothers Tire Repair, where he was found fatally shot after a confrontation Tuesday afternoon.
Miller said 31-year-old Perez surrendered to military police at Hunter Army Air Field near the scene of the shooting shortly after the incident and is being held in the Chatham County Detention Center.
It was unclear if Perez had an attorney. Information on the motive that led to the slaying was not immediately available.
