Commissioning set for Cutter Margaret Norvel

NEW ORLEANS — A commissioning ceremony for the Coast Guard Cutter Margaret Norvell will be held this weekend.

The Coast Guard said the Margaret Norvell, homeported in Miami, is 154 feet long and has a maximum sustained speed of more than 28 knots.

Officials said the cutter was named after lighthouse keeper Margert Novell, who served 41 years with the U.S. Lighthouse Service.

Saturdayís ceremony will start at 10 a.m. at the Port of New Orleans. Norvellís great-granddaughter Barbara Norvell Perronne is expected to attend.
