KODIAK, ALASKA — The Coast Guard cutter Alex Haley is getting a new commanding officer.

The Coast Guard said Cmdr. Stephen R. White will relieve Cmdr. Kevin W. Riddle during a ceremony Friday at the Coast Guard base in Kodiak.

Riddle has commanded the Alex Haley since June 2011. The Coast Guard, in a release, said Riddle will next be assigned to the Joint Advanced Warfighting School in Virginia.

White has been serving as chief of international planning at the Coast Guard’s Atlantic Area Command in Virginia. He has prior service in Alaska.
