Take your mobile device with you to check prices when you shop at your Navy Exchange — a recent policy change allows stores to match prices to national chains Walmart.com, Target.com, Amazon.com, BestBuy.com, Sears.com, ToysRUs.com and BabiesRUS.com.
If the price difference is $10 or less for the identical item, the cashier will match the cheaper price on the spot, even without proof.
If the difference is more than $10, show the price to the cashier on your mobile device, and it may be verified by another NEX employee or supervisor.
As always, NEX matches the shelf price or advertised price in a local competitor’s current advertisement, either in a printed advertisement or displayed on a mobile device. NEX has a 14-day price guarantee, and will match the cheaper price later on the identical item.
Items already on layaway also qualify for a price reduction if you find a better deal elsewhere.
Exchanges on Army and Air Force bases don’t accept price matches from an outside retail catalog or website, but the all-service shopmyexchange.com will match a lower price, including shipping and handling, on any identical item from a competitor’s catalog or website.
Marine Corps Exchange sales associates are allowed to match stores’ prices to Internet prices; the only exceptions are if you’re looking at an auction site or if the items are refurbished or used.
Commissary card: Your thoughts?
Since the commissary rewards card went worldwide last September, more than 1.5 million cards have been distributed to eligible shoppers, and more than 600,000 of those customers have registered their cards to download electronic offers.
That’s a registration rate of more than 40 percent, way above the retail industry average of 15 percent to 20 percent, said Mike Dowling, chief operating officer of the Defense Commissary Agency, at a recent conference.
The rewards card is “exceeding all our expectations,” Dowling said.

Since the program began, more than 4.5 million digital coupons have been downloaded. About 120 digital coupons are available on any given day, and those offers change.
If you haven’t yet signed up, simply pick up your rewards card in any commissary, then visit www.commissary.com to register it and choose the digital coupons you want loaded to your account; check back often to see if more coupons have become available.
The coupons have expiration dates and conditions that must be met, so print out the list before you go to the store to make sure you purchase the right product for the discount.
When your card is scanned at the register, the coupons are matched to your purchases and automatically deducted from the balance.
Check your receipt before you leave the store to make sure you received the discounts.
