Affiliation bonuses

Active-duty officers who go Reserve are eligible for a $10,000 lump-sum bonus if they take jobs in the following paygrade/designator combinations.

■O-5 and below: Designator 1135.

O-4 and below: Designators 2205 (subspecialties 1700, 1725, 1750), 2305 (any subspecialty), 2905 (any subspecialty).

O-4 and O-3: Designators 1115, 1125, 1145, 1315, 1325, 1515, 2105 (any subspecialty), 4105, 5105.

O-4 only: Designators 1205, 1445, 1525, 1805, 1825, 1835, 2505, 3105.

O-3 only: Designator 1655.

Critical shortage specialties

Officers in the following paygrade-designator-subspecialty combinations, designated by the Defense Department as “critical shortage specialties” are eligible for special pays, stipends and some loan repayment programs.

■O-5 and below: Designators 2105 (subspecialties 15BX, 15CX, 15DX, 16PX and 16XX), 2205 (1725 and 1750).

■O-4 and below: Designators 2305 (subspecialties 1800, 1805, 1860 and 1910); 2905 (1972, 1973 and 1981).

■O-2 to O-4: Designator 2905 (subspecialties 1930, 1950 and 1960).

■O-2 and O-3: Designator 2105 (subspecialty 16QX).

■O-3: Designator 2205 (subspecialty 1700).

Medical community special pay

Officers with these designator/subspecialty combinations will be eligible for special pay in the following annual amounts.

■$25,000: Designators 2105 (subspecialties 15BX, 15CX, 15DX and 15HX); 2205 (1750).

■$15,000: Designators 2105 (subspecialties 16PX, 16QX and 16XX), 2205 (1700 and 1725), 2305 (1805), 2905 (1950, 1972 and 1973).

■$10,000: Designators 2305 (subspecialties 1800 and 1860), 2905 (1910, 1930, 1960 and 1981).

Medical accession bonuses

Officers accepting their first commission in these paygrade-designator-subspecialty combinations will net a $10,000 lump-sum bonus.

■O-3 to O-5: Designators 2105 (any subspecialty), 2205 (subspecialty 1750).

■O-4 and below: Designator 2305 (any subspecialty).

■O-3 and O-4: Designator 2205 (subspecialty 1700).

■O-2 to O-4: Designator 2905 (any subspecialty).


Active-duty sailors who go Reserve in the following skill/Navy enlisted classification combinations could earn a bonus of up to $20,000, according to NAVADMIN 161/13. Consult the NAVADMIN for details.

Tier 1 ($20,000 maximum)

Any NEC in these skills: AWF, AWO, CTR, ND, SB, SO.

Specific NECs in these skills: AWR (NEC 7835), CTI (9ARB and 9PES), CTN (9306).

Tier 2 ($15,000 maximum)

Any NEC in these skills: AWR, AWS, CTN, MC, MN.

■Specific NECs in these skills:
AG (NEC 7412), CTT (9141), HM (8410, 8427 and 8435), IS (3912, 3923 and 3924), IT (2779, 2780 and 2791).

Tier 3 ($10,000 maximum)

■ Any NEC in these skills:

■ Specific NECs in these skills:
BU (5907), CE (5635), CM (5805), EN (4303), EN/MM (4313), EO (5710), ET (9605, 14NO, 14RO, 1420 and 1678), OS (0336), SW (6010), UT (6105).
