PACIFIC MISSILE RANGE FACILITY, HAWAII — The Pacific Missile Range Facility on Kauai is getting a new commander this week.
Capt. Bruce Hay is scheduled to take over from Capt. Nicholas Mongillo during a ceremony Thursday at the base’s operations hangar.
Hay was most recently future aircraft carrier requirements officer with the staff of the Chief of Naval Operations in Washington.
The naval flight officer has flown more than 2,600 flight hours and made 802 carrier arrested landings. He made the first EA-6B Prowler night-vision device landing in Bagram, Afghanistan.
Mongillo is retiring after more than 27 years in the Navy.
The Pacific Missile Range Facility is the only range in the world where submarines, surface ships, aircraft and space vehicles can operate and be tracked simultaneously.
