SUDLERSVILLE, MD. — Maryland officials say a military practice bomb landed in a Queen Anne’s County tavern parking lot.
The state fire marshal’s office said witnesses reported the bomb fell from the sky Thursday night onto the paved parking lot at Darlene’s Tavern in Sudlersville. Deputy State Fire Marshal Bruce Bouch said the device did not contain explosive material.
After first responders cleared debris to find a military style bomb, fire marshal’s office bomb technicians were called in. They determined the device was a practice aerial bomb that would have been dropped by military aircraft flying in the area.
Bouch said the bomb was turned over to the 175th Wing Air National Guard.
National Guard spokesman Lt. Col. Charles Kohler said Friday that an A-10 Warthog jet was returning from a training mission Thursday night when the inert device was dropped. He said the guard is not conducting flight operations with this aircraft while it investigates.
