DEVILS LAKE, N.D. — A 24-year-old Kentucky National Guard member has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for his role in a crash that killed two passengers and injured a third.
KZZY radio reports that Christopher Brandt of Lowmansville, Ky., entered Alford pleas Friday to two counts of manslaughter and one count of reckless endangerment, meaning he didn’t admit guilt but acknowledges there likely was enough evidence to convict.
Prosecutors say Brandt’s blood alcohol level was three times the legal limit when he lost control of a car Sept. 13, killing 31-year-old Ronald Forsyth and 23-year-old Jason Burnette.
Brandt apologized at his sentencing, saying he doesn’t remember the crash but knows he’s responsible for the death of his friends.
Brandt was in Devils Lake with the fellow Guard members training at Camp Grafton.
