CRANSTON, R.I. — Members of the Rhode Island National Guard are wrapping up a four-day cyber defense drill.

The exercise, called Cyber Shield 2013, is intended to test the state’s Cyber Disruption Team and the state’s Emergency Operations Center to determine how well they would respond to an actual cyber attack.

Sixteen states are participating in the exercise. The Rhode Island State Police, the Providence Water Supply Board and the Providence Emergency Management Agency are also taking part in the drill.

Rhode Island Adjutant General Kevin McBride says the exercise will help local and state authorities learn ways to work together in the event of an attack on state computer systems.
