BLUFFDALE, UTAH — Eleven Utah veterans whose remains went unclaimed after they died have been honored with a military funeral.
The Missing in America Project organized the ceremony Thursday at Veterans Memorial Chapel in Bluffdale. The organization identifies veterans whose families haven’t come forward to collect their remains, and works to find the next of kin.
If they can’t, they recognize them in a ceremony like the one Thursday, which included a procession to the cemetery, an honor guard and taps.
Their cremated remains will be buried alongside 15 other veterans honored in a funeral two years ago.
Those honored were Robert Clifford Baird, Wayne Monroe Butcher, John Eaton Cox, Dennis Fischer, Howard William Gnadt, Ralph George Hartley, George August Heitschmidt, Irvin Nickisch, Gary Andrew Savold, Jimmie Wayne Tackitt and Dexter Kent Wilson.
