The destroyer Higgins arrived back home in San Diego on Monday after nine months at sea.

The captain’s log, posted on the ship’s official Facebook page Sunday, sums the trip up nicely:

“We’ve traveled 50,232 miles, expended 50,000 rounds of ammunition, conducted 99 major exercises/operations, 101 approach and assist visits, took 3,500 videos and 37,000 photos, burned 4.7 million gallons of fuel, landed 567 helicopters, onloaded 645 pallets of supplies, stores and mail, held 5 Community Relation events, had 15 port visits to 7 countries, 1 territory and Hawaii and been gone for 266 days. We’ve missed an un-countable number of birthdays, anniversaries, births, deaths, and other never-to-get-back life events and stood the watch for 6336 hours. Finally, it’s time to come home! We are SO excited to see our family, friends and loved ones waiting for us on the pier!”

Higgins left San Diego on Jan. 14 with the Nimitz Strike Group, which also included Destroyer Squadron 23 and destroyers Stockdale, Shoup and William P. Lawrence. Higgins spent much of its time in the Western Pacific and Middle East.
