The Navy’s tuition-assistance process has resumed following a shutdown-induced stoppage, but some sailors who began classes during the federal funding lapse will be out of luck.
Sailors seeking TA for upcoming courses may apply now that the continuing resolution is in place, according to a Navy news release issued Friday, and “all previously approved TA requests for courses which began on or after Oct. 17 will also be honored.”
But Defense Department instructions require all TA to be approved before classes begin, meaning retroactive funding won’t be available. Sailors who did not receive TA authorization for classes that began during the shutdown, Oct. 1-16, will not be eligible for reimbursement.
“The bottom line for sailors is, if you have a TA voucher printed from the WebTA site, you may present this to your educational institution in lieu of payment,” the release states.
More information on WebTA and other TA regulations is available at the Navy College Program website.
