ADRIAN, MICH. — A southeastern Michigan judge has scheduled a Nov. 18 hearing on whether to try an off-duty soldier in the strangling of one man and the stabbing of another.
Lenawee County District Judge granted a defense request Monday and reset a preliminary examination for 31-year-old Brian Gogue, who’s charged with an open count of murder and with attempted murder.
Joel Krutsch of Adrian was killed Oct. 5 at a mobile home in Raisin Township, about 50 miles southwest of Detroit. Eighteen-year-old Scott Fernandez was stabbed in the shoulder.
Police say Gogue was on leave from the Army and visiting his estranged wife at the time.
An open murder charge lets a jury consider both first- and second-degree murder.
