One-star assigned to lead Navy Medicine West

Rear Adm. Bruce Gillingham will be assigned as commander, Navy Medicine West/commander, Naval Medical Center San Diego, top Navy officials announced Tuesday in a Defense Department news release.

Gillingham, who is serving as fleet surgeon for Fleet Forces Command in Norfolk, Va., will take over for Rear Adm. Forrest Faison, who has led Navy Medicine West and NMCSD since August 2010.

Gillingham was nominated for his first star in July.
