RENO, NEV. — A 56-year-old Reno man who served in the U.S. Army in South Korea over the past decade faces up to five years in prison after pleading guilty to defrauding the Defense Department out of $64,000 by filing false claims for housing allowances.
Patrick Y. Kim pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court in Reno Thursday to one count of making a false claim. He also agreed to reimburse the government the $64,000.
Federal prosecutors say Kim was the former chief of the Furniture Branch at the U.S. Army Garrison in Daegu, Souh Korea dating to 2002. They say he admitted that in September 2008 he created a fake rental lease and submitted false reciepits for an apartment.
U.S. Judge Howard McKibben has set his sentencing for Feb. 12, 2014.
