Commissaries offering $2k scholarships

FORT LEE, VA. — The Defense Commissary Agency is helping fund a limited number of scholarships to the children of military personnel and retirees.

Applications for the 2014 Scholarships for Military Children Program are available online starting Tuesday at

The agency is offering at least one, $2,000 scholarship at each commissary with qualified applicants.

The agency says each applicant must be a dependent, unmarried child younger than 21 of a service member, retiree or survivor of a military member who died while on active duty, or survivor of a retiree.

Applicants must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the fall of 2014. Since the program began in 2011, more than $11.3 million in scholarships have been awarded to more than 7,400 military dependents.
