FORT KNOX, KY. — The application window has opened for the fiscal 2014 Medical Service Corps flight training program for MS officers and MS-branched cadets who want to become medical evacuation pilots.

Applicants selected by the Feb. 18 board will attend flight school at Fort Rucker, Ala., in 2014-15.

Officers who complete the rigorous training regimen of the Army Medical Department Basic Officer Leader Course and the initial Entry Rotary Wing Aviator Course will be awarded specialty 67J.

These officers will incur a six-year active-duty service obligation from the date they graduate from flight school or are voluntarily removed from the program, said Maj. Nate Forrester, 67J assignment officer in the Medical Service Corps personnel management branch of Human Resources Command.

The zone of eligibility for the board is limited to Medical Service Corps officers in cohort year groups 2012, 2013 and 2014, and West Point and ROTC cadets who have been branched to the Medical Service Corps. Applicants also:

■ Must have less than 48 months of active federal commissioned service at the start of flight training.

■ Must have a minimum score of 40 on the Selection Instrument for Flight Training. Possible scores on this new evaluation tool range from 20 to 80, with a mean of 50 and a standard deviation of 10.

■ Must be medically qualified as described in Chapter 3 of Army Regulation 40-501 (Standards of Medical Fitness).

Forrester noted that officers selected for the program are both pilots and AMEDD officers and will be eligible to command AMEDD units, to include command time as majors. For application details, consult MilPer Message 13-338, dated Nov. 19. The application deadline is Feb. 11.
