HARRISBURG, PA. — Retired Maj. Gen. Nick Kafkalas, a decorated war veteran and former Pennsylvania adjutant general, is dead at 93.
Gov. Tom Corbett’s office said Kafkalas died Tuesday at his home in Camp Hill.
Kafkalas served in France during World War II and is a former commanding general of the 28th Infantry Division. His military medals include two Silver Stars. He was appointed as Pennsylvania’s adjutant general in 1977 by Gov. Milton Shapp.
Corbett says he served under Kafkalas in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard. He says Kafkalas is a model for all Pennsylvanians to follow.
