LITTLETON, N.H. — Police called a bomb squad to a New Hampshire hospital after a retired Navy bomb expert fatally shot himself at the emergency room door.
Police said 55-year-old Thomas Sitsch shot himself at Regional Health Care at about 11 a.m. Monday. No one else was hurt, but police cordoned off the parking lot and searched Sitsch’s vehicle to make sure it contained no explosives. None were found.
Littleton Police Chief Paul Smith tells the Caledonian Record Sitsch’s Monroe home was blocked off and two nearby homes evacuated as police searched for more explosives as a precaution.
Sitsch was charged in New Hampshire and Vermont for violating a restraining order taken out by his wife.
He was scheduled for a 9 a.m. hearing Monday in Caledonia District Court, but didn’t appear.
