A sailor assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 died Sunday while spear fishing near Agat, Guam, according to a news release from Andersen Air Force Base.

The body of Aviation Electronics Technician 3rd Class R-Jay Domondon, 19, was found Monday after a search that involved HSC-25 assets, as well as other Navy, Coast Guard and local fire department personnel.

Domondon, of Waterbury, Conn., had been advanced to AT3 under the Accelerated Advancement Program in mid-December, an HSC-25 spokesman said Wednesday. His awards included the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Member. He joined the Navy in July 2012.

“This young man was a dedicated, personable and highly motivated sailor,” Cmdr. Gregory Leland, head of HSC-25, said in the Air Force release. “He was a courageous young man who embodied living life to its fullest.”

His goal had been to become a Navy SEAL, according to a report by WTIC-TV in Hartford, Conn.
