Marine Corps Times reporter Hope Hodge Seck will report from Afghanistan over the next three weeks, embedded with Marines in Helmand province.

Seck, 26, will cover drawdown, advising and transition operations from Camp Leatherneck and various forward operating bases within Regional Command Southwest. Marine Corps Times will publish news reports and features from the embed daily on marinecorpstimes.com and the Battle Rattle blog, and in the weekly print edition.

She will spend time with 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, out of Twentynine Palms, Calif., as well as other Marine units.

This is the first trip to Afghanistan for Seck, who has previously covered local Marine Corps news from outside Camp Lejeune for the Jacksonville Daily News and spent time embedded with Marines in training aboard the amphibious assault ship Iwo Jima.

Seck has received awards from the North Carolina Press Association for military coverage, including a report exposing a phony Marine colonel and an investigative report on the popularity of the synthetic drug Spice among Marines.
