TROY, N.Y. — Several hundred members of the New York Army National Guard are heading to Kansas for a battle simulation exercise.
More than 200 soldiers from the Albany area, a contingent of the 42nd Infantry Division in western New York, and 100 troops from the Hudson Valley leave Monday for Fort Leavenworth.
The so-called Warfighter exercise tests the skills of all staff sections and enables them to work individually or collectively as a team. Experts will assess the division’s ability to plan, communicate, react and respond to battlefield changes through a complex computer simulation.
The exercise culminates two years of training for some 400 soldiers to better prepare them for any potential state emergency or federal mission.
The exercise is scheduled to run until the end of May.
