Welsh announces new assignments for 9 generals

Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Welsh announced nine general officer assignments Thursday:

■Maj. Gen. Leonard Patrick, commander, Second Air Force, Air Education and Training Command, Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi, becomes vice commander, Headquarters Air Education and Training Command, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph.

■Brig. Gen. Mark Brown, major general selectee and director, financial management, Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio, replaces Patrick.

■Brig. Gen. John Pletcher, director, budget operations and personnel, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Financial Management and Comptroller), Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Pentagon, replaces Brown.

■Brig. Gen. John Horner, major general selectee and commander, Air Force Recruiting Service, Air Education and Training Command, Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, becomes deputy director, Defense Threat Reduction Agency, Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

■Brig. Gen. James Johnson, director for logistics, Headquarters U.S. Africa Command, Stuttgart, Germany, replaces Horner.

■Brig. Gen James Vechery, director, U.S. Forces-Afghanistan Liaison to the U.S. Embassy, Kabul, Afghanistan, replaces Johnson.

■Brig. Gen. John Rauch Jr., chief, concepts, strategy and wargaming, Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations, Plans and Requirements, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon, becomes director of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance strategy, plans, doctrine and force development, Deputy Chief of Staff, Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance, Headquarters U.S. Air Force, Pentagon.

■Brig. Gen. Sarah Zabel, director, command, control, communications and cyber systems, Headquarters U.S. Transportation Command, Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, becomes director, cyberspace operations, Office of Information Dominance and Chief Information Officer, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Pentagon.

■Brig. Gen. Mitchel Butikofer, director, policies and resources, Office of Information Dominance and Chief Information Officer, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Pentagon, replaces Zabel.
