Police discovered a man dead from a single gunshot wound at Arlington National Cemetery on Friday morning, a spokesman for the Army’s Criminal Investigation Command said.
“Although we have not completely ruled it out in order to conduct a complete and thorough investigation, we do not suspect foul play at this point in the investigation,” Chris Grey said in an email to Military Times.
Military police, CID agents and Arlington County police officers were dispatched to the cemetery at 10 a.m. after receiving reports of a single gunshot there, Grey said. They found the man near the Columbarium Courts in Section 64.
Grey said the man was not an active-duty service member, but CID is not releasing further information until the man has been positively identified and his next of kin has been notified. Investigators believe the shooting is an isolated incident and there is no threat to the public or visitors to the cemetery.
