The aircraft carrier Nimitz is investigating one of its sailors for allegedly making a rape threat to a delayed entry program recruit on Facebook.

Electrician’s Mate 2nd Class Nicholas Lord is accused of posting a comment on the woman’s Facebook page after her delayed entry program group posted a photo of her flexing for the camera in shorts and a Navy T-shirt.

“You’ll end up pregnant soon,” Lord is accused of writing. The post concludes with, “If I could and I knew you, I’d hold you down and rape you.”

Lord did not immediately respond to a request for comment. A request for comment from the woman’s recruiting office was directed to Navy Recruiting District San Francisco.

The comment, which was posted Tuesday, was quickly picked up on blogs and Facebook pages and met with a swift response from Lord’s chain of command.

On Thursday, the ship posted a comment on its Facebook page saying the remarks attributed to Lord were “contrary to Navy core values,” going on to say that shipboard leaders were “taking corrective action via the [nonjudicial punishment] process.”

The Los Angeles Times reported Thursday that the investigation was underway.

A statement from Cmdr. Jeannie Groeneveld, a spokeswoman for Naval Air Force Pacific, said the Navy took all such threats seriously but that it was just beginning its investigation into the incident.

“Currently the sailor is under investigation,” Groeneveld said. “It would be inappropriate to speculate on matters relating to the ongoing investigation.”

The woman in the photo did not return a Facebook message seeking comment, but she said on her Facebook page that she felt sick after reading the remarks attributed to Lord.

Lord entered the Navy in 2008, according to Navy personnel records, underwent nuclear training and served on two submarines before joining the Nimitz crew in November.
