U.S. Central Command released video on Sunday of American military airstrikes against extremist targets near Mosul Dam in Iraq.
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) has seized vast swaths of northern and western Iraq and northeastern Syria. The dam on the Tigris, Iraq’s largest, supplies electricity and water for irrigation to a large part of the country.
On Saturday, CENTCOM said nine airstrikes were launched near the dam, destroying four armored personnel carriers, seven armed vehicles, two Humvees and another armored vehicle.
The first video depicts a U.S. airstrike against an ISIL armed truck, while the second video depicts a U.S. airstrike against an ISIL Humvee (armored truck).
Kurdish forces took over parts of the dam on Sunday less than two weeks after it was captured by the extremist group, Kurdish security officials said.
