Moving: Weight allowances
The government sets weight limits for what it will ship. The allowed weight depends on your rank and if you have dependents.
Weight allowances can be found in the Joint Federal Travel Regulations, Chapter 5, Part D.
The weight allowance includes the total weight of all household goods shipped, stored and sent as unaccompanied baggage.
Weight is estimated as 1,000 pounds per room, excluding bathrooms and storage areas, and then adding the estimated weight of large appliances, garage items and items in storage.
Estimated weights are not official. Charges are based on the weight tickets submitted by the moving company. Service members are responsible for charges incurred for any weight over the limit.
The transportation office will weigh your items again at your destination at no charge.
