Deployment weight
On my last cruise, I started out at 235 and came home at 170. I’m a picky eater, so if I didn’t like what was for chow, I either ate a salad or went to the ship’s store for beef jerky and pretzels. And if I pigged out a little on a port visit, it didn’t matter much, because I did way more than enough walking to burn it off.

I am in amazing shape out here right now. With nothing to do but work out, you really don’t have much choice when it comes to entertainment.

Lawmaker wants Medal of Honor review
It is about time someone evaluated/overhauled the broken medal process. I really hope that they look at all of the awards that have been given for valor and gallantry to see if these service members can have current medals upgraded. I am sure if a full investigation of medals [were] given, you would find many that would qualify for the Medal of Honor.

Sloppy sailors
In an ideal world, every sailor would be inspection-ready and super sharp every day, and we as leaders would not have to put a whole lot of effort into enforcing the standards expected of us and our sailors.
But then, we do not live in an ideal world, do we? Not everyone is going to be 100 percent squared away all the time; but if we enforce the basics and, most importantly, set a good example, we will foster an environment of pride and professionalism where a person wants to look and be their very best.

Mayport CVN makes sense
This isn’t really news. The Norfolk and Virginia politicians started crying about it a year or so ago when the Defense Department and Navy started considering putting a carrier in Mayport again.
One of their [arguments] was that the Tidewater area would suffer a severe economic impact if one of the Norfolk carriers were to be relocated. Please! That still leaves them four other carriers to support.
