Commissaries: The real deal?
We shop around for whatever we need. Some items like paper products and meat are cheaper at the commissary, while produce and other stuff are comparable at the market.

NWU wear rules relaxed; quick stops allowed
I am already seeing stretching of the boundaries. I observed two young shipmates at the movie theater last night, one of whom was wearing his NWUs. I quietly took them aside and identified myself and asked them where they were from and reminded them of the rules regarding “brief stops” and that the theater definitely did not fall into that category. They were respectful and told me that their [division officer] told them at quarters that they could wear them anywhere. I hope that wasn’t the case.

remote-controlled deck guns for warships
Really smart move here. This will enable us to get faster kill shots instead of having to walk rounds to a target. Also keeping squids inside the ship is obviously a lot safer, too. Wondering if this could actually be used for a low slow flier?

I can understand a station on the bridge as a secondary console, but why isn’t the primary in the combat information center? It just seems dumb — more people, more noise, and more distractions for the bridge watch teams.

If you had to do it all over again ...
Make sure anything the recruiter promises is written down in the contract. Otherwise, it’s your word against theirs. Do not volunteer information, let them ask you for it. If you do get asked something, do not lie about anything. Better to be up front and possibly not get in than to get in trouble for fraudulent enlistment later. Talk to recruiters from all branches. Go with the one that will give you the best deal in line with your desires. After all, you have to do the time. Also, while you make the ultimate decision, talk it over with your family, significant other, etc. Would I do it over again? With regard to military service in general, yes. With regard to the Navy, not sure.
