Crack found in hull of submarine Toledo
The real reason this is an issue is because there had to be multiple systemic failures for this crack to go unnoticed during multiple inspection processes and unpredicted by those who designed the hull and determined its required metallurgical properties. The real question is: Where else is the submarine force vulnerable to these types of problems?

Commissaries: The Real Deal?
I live about 16 miles from my commissary. For major, weekly or monthly shopping, I go to the commissary, especially if I want to look at something at the exchange. But if I just need a gallon of milk or whatever, I go to my local grocery store. Now that it’s just the husband and me at home, I’m finding that I’m making fewer trips to the commissary. I get frozen entrees (such as Budget Gourmet, Weight Watchers, etc.) from the commissary. Definitely less expensive on a regular basis.

Government-run health care
I’m not saying Tricare is perfect, but it’s always done me and my family pretty well. Maybe a little hassle at times, but what isn’t? That being said, I doubt a national health care system will be anywhere near as good as Tricare, and I don’t want anything to do with it. When I retire, though, I expect I’ll pay for Tricare for Life.

I wouldn’t want to rely on my health care from an insurance company that can cancel a policy for any reason. Tricare may not be perfect, but unless I’m willing to spend $50,000 on a private, top-of-the-line insurance policy, I’ll take Tricare.

Though the military system is by no means perfect, I much prefer it to any of the HMOs that I had prior to entering the service. Those HMOs had nothing on the government for red tape, and would look for any excuse to cut your coverage should you actually need to use it to any degree. Based on my experiences with my grandparents under the system, I’d also take Medicare over an HMO for the same reasons.
