InSurv prep means extensive outside help
Never should you have to “get ready” for an inspection. The ship should operate within guidelines of inspection criteria all the time. One way to fix this “get ready for an inspection” [mind-set] is to make inspections “no notice.”

Using reservists is a great idea; too bad they couldn’t pull in more guys on their two weeks for real hands-on training. It gets these guys away from the ticket-punching training and directly involved in the real world, and most of the reservists know what they’re doing.

Report outlines security unit hazing, assault
How could the Navy not even know that this was happening? Everyone involved should be busted and sent to the brig, then get a [bad-conduct discharge]! It is the fault of the [chain of command] for not taking care of the sailors.

SecNav, CNO: Women should serve on subs
I served on subs. I served on carriers before, during and after the integration of women. I was a member of a large department — all critical ratings. Not one female in my division made it through her tour pregnancy-free. It was a hardship on our division every time one or more of them was on maternity [leave]. On a carrier, it affected readiness. The effect on a sub ... would be impossible to manage.

Do not do this. By going ahead with this foolhardy plan you very well may destroy many marriages or relationships made already fragile by serving in submarines.

Look at the number of women that get pulled off surface ships because they get pregnant prior to getting underway. Losing one person on a sub is a whole lot different [from] losing one person on a surface ship. If we are opening up positions on subs for women, it needs to be across the fleet and even into the SEALs, but that hasn’t been put on the table because of the logistical and operation issues that a pregnancy can cause to the unit. If we want unity across the board, do away with the double standards and put women in all units and have them follow the same requirements that men have to follow.
