A military ‘Marry Me’

Pop the question from the war zone

If you’re ready to pop the question but stuck on duty overseas while your significant other pines away back home, the boys from Train want to help you out. But you better be sure the answer will be yes. A lot of people will be watching.

The Grammy-winning “Hey, Soul Sister” crooners are topping the charts of the wooing and wedding set this year with their new hit “Marry Me.” With lyrics that open with “Forever can never be long enough for me to feel like I’ve had long enough with you,” no wonder it’s the No. 1 marital melody for 2011 on TheKnot.com, a leading wedding-planning website.

Fans are turning Train concerts into the place to propose this year, often begging the band to let them get down on one knee under the spotlight.

“We have fans asking if they can propose to someone onstage every night we play,” Train front man Pat Monahan says. “We love that.”

Turns out they’ve got a soft spot for troops, too. The band wants to help one camouflaged courter declare his or her true love from afar — live via satellite — during a show this summer.

The military couple with the most compelling story as told through letters, photos or video submitted by email to trainproposal@trainline.com by May 4 will have their proposal broadcast live via satellite during a concert.

“I feel terribly for all the young people who are making such sacrifices for the good of what we have as a country,” Monahan says. “If we can add a little romance to their lives, that’s the least we can do to say thanks.”
