From the ranks: Military shooters aim for ‘Top Shot’

It’s an interservice shootout for History Channel’s “Top Shot” title this season.

With the smoke clearing from a field of 16 competitors, the final four gunslingers — all hailing from a military background — emerged to compete in the Season 2 closer April 26.

But with the single shooters from the Army and Navy already down for the count, it’s Air Force vs. Marine Corps gunning for the “Top Shot” tab.

The Marines have the Air Force outnumbered three to one, with former leathernecks Brian Zins, Chris Reed and Joe Serafini facing off against active-duty Air Force security forces sniper Staff Sgt. George Reinas, an instructor with the 421st Combat Training Squadron at Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, N.J.

Being surrounded by Marines hasn’t taken the sharpshooting swagger out of Reinas’ trash talk. He declared at the outset, “I’m big, I’m mean. I’m going to destroy the competition.”

The winner of what has become one of the History Channel’s top-rated shows will claim a grand prize of $100,000. Watch full episodes online at www.history.com/shows/top-shot.
