It’s troops vs. troops on XBox

Troops looking for online gaming competition of their own caliber can now face off with each other, thanks to an airman from Eielson Air Force Base, Alaska.

Senior Airman Ryan Williams of the 381st Intelligence Squadron created an online gaming circuit called Newtroop, a place for military members to face off and socialize.

"It's a place where military men and women can socialize, compete and have fun amongst their peers," said Senior Airman Dominic Garcia, Eielson point of contact for Newtroop. "There is no cost to join. We like to be competitive but mainly have fun."

Newtroop currently offers competitions in the following XBox Live games: Gears of War, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter, Battlefield 2, Halo 2, Madden07 and Saint's Row.

Garcia said that in the near future Newtroop anticipates playing Halo 3, Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 and Crackdown. Newtroop PC titles include World of Warcraft, Battlefield and City of Heroes.

Newtroop’s founders hope to gather enough participation to have consistent base versus base, major command versus major command and even branch versus branch tournaments.
