While most employers and recruiters rely on outside sources to do routine criminal history screenings, many also explore social media sites to investigate job candidates.

The 2012 Jobvite Social Recruiting Survey reported that more than 90 percent of employers will use social media for recruiting this year, with 73 percent of employers hiring a candidate through social media, such as LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter.

According to recruiting specialist Jobvite’s report:

* 47 percent of recruiters reacted negatively to online posts regarding alcohol consumption.

* 54 percent reacted negatively to poor grammar and spelling.

* 80 percent liked seeing candidate’s memberships in professional organizations.
