Filing claims

Service members are entitled to full replacement and repair value for damaged and lost household goods.

But to get the full value, you must follow correct procedures in filing claims. That includes filing a notice of loss or damage within 75 days of delivery, and filing the claim within nine months.

Service members who file claims after nine months, but within two years, receive depreciated value.

Although you file your claim with the moving company, you must do it through the claims process online.

It’s important that all service members fill out the 12-question Customer Satisfaction Survey after a move — that’s your voice in improving future household goods moves. The results are used to give moving companies a customer satisfaction score. Those scores determine how shipments are awarded — companies with the best scores get the most business.
