Maj. Gen. Eric Schoomaker named new Walter Reed head

Secretary of Defense Robert Gates named Maj. Gen. Eric Schoomaker head of Walter Reed Army Medical Center one day after relieving Maj. Gen. George Weightman of command.
“Gen. Eric Schoomaker has the right blend of leadership, professional expertise and personal experience for this position,” said Gen. Richard Cody, Army Vice Chief of Staff in a statement Friday.
Schoomaker, a medical doctor, will also serve as commander of North Atlantic Regional Medical Command. He will leave the post of commanding general of Army Medical Research and Command at Fort Detrick, Md. He has also commanded Evans Army Community Hosptial at Fort Carson, Colo., the 30th Medical Brigade for V Corps in Germany, and the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Command Center at Fort Gordon, Ga.
