Maytag, Samsung washing machines recalled
Posted : Friday Mar 23, 2007 16:30:27 EDT
About 250,000 Maytag and 20,000 Samsung front-loading washing machines are being recalled in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission because of a possible fire hazard.
Water leaking onto the electrical connections to the washing machine’s thermal sensor could cause an electrical short and ignite a circuit board. Six incidents have been reported, but no injuries, fires or property damage outside of the washing machines themselves have been reported.
Customers should stop using the recalled washing machines immediately and contact the company for information on how to receive free repairs. Customers should not return the washing machines.
The washing machines in question were manufactured by Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., of South Korea. They were sold at major department and appliances stores nationwide from April 2005 through August 2006. The military exchange catalog and online stores sold the Maytag models. The Army and Air Force Exchange Service said some of their stores may have sold the Maytag models through special order.
*Affected Maytag washers have model numbers beginning with MAH9700 and MAH8700 and ending with one of these two-letter combinations: GA, GC, GE, GG, GJ, GL, GN, GP, GR, GT, GV, GX, JA, JC, JE, JG,JJ, JL or JN.
*Affected Samsung washers have model number WF306BHW, or a model number beginning with WF316. In addition, their serial numbers have a 6-digit number ranging from 100001 through 799999, before a letter.
For complete information on how to tell if your washer is one of the recalled models, go to Maytag’s recall Web site at www.washerrecall.com or call their toll-free line at (800) 868-5109 between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m. EDT Monday through Friday.
